Another Gift To You, A New Schedule

As the seasons change, so does this writer.

After nearly one year of reviving this blog, and sharing a unique perspective on China, I’ve decided I need to make some changes in my schedule. Why? To work on refining the writing I’ve done here, and begin turning this skeleton of a blog into a manuscript.

So, what can you expect? Don’t worry, I’m not taking a “vacation.” In fact, you’ll still see the same content on my site — only I’m posting three days a week, not five. Here’s the revised schedule:

Mondays: Chapters from Memoirs of a Yangxifu

Wednesdays: Chapters from Memoirs of a Yangxifu — except the 2nd Wednesday of the month, when you’ll find Travel China with the Yangxifu

Fridays: Ask the Yangxifu

But I also know one thing — one of the greatest gifts of this endeavor has been you, the reader. You’re the most important thing to me, and I’d like to say “thanks” by offering five readers the chance to win one of five Chinese characters drawn by my father-in-law. This time, it’s the character è´¤[xián] which means “virtuous” or “a virtuous person.” (sorry I cannot post it this time — my scanner is broken! however, it is similar in style to the other character I gave away in February.)

Here are the rules this time:

  1. Only people who have NOT won from me before are eligible.
  2. You must comment on this post to enter. Be sure to provide a valid e-mail address, (otherwise I cannot contact you to tell you you’ve won) and be willing to share your street address with me, so I can send it to you.
  3. On April 29, 3am GMT (That’s April 28, 11pm US Eastern time, or April 29, 11am Beijing time), the contest is closed — and I will then put everyone’s name into a hat and draw out my five winners. I’ll update this post to announce you, as well as contact you by e-mail to tell you you’ve won (and ask for your address).

If you win, please note — the characters will take one week to arrive if you live in North America, and 2-3 weeks to arrive if you live elsewhere.

Good luck and thanks for reading!

  1. Not here for the contest, but because I’m sooo of two minds now:
As a reader, I want to thank you and say, “keep it coming.”
As a blogger/writer, I want to kvetch and suggest you change to a schedule where you publish less often. How about once a week? You’d still be writing three times more (at least!) than I do 😉

  2. Thanks for the news on your new schedule and what you are planning to do Jocelyn. A little sad you’ll only be posting 3 days instead of 5, but glad you’ll be working on something that means a lot to you.

  3. Echoing the previous thoughts about how sad we are to see you post less… though 3 times a week is still a really good dose of the Yangxifu 🙂 Good luck on your manuscript!

  4. You can totally count on that you will see me here on those three days, and maybe some other days too! I was so suprised and happy when I found your blog few weeks ago. Before I didn’t even know anyone who had a Chinese husband. It is extremely comforting for us who are still looking for the right one. Hopefully someday I can come here to tell my good news, but before that keep up the good work!

    1. @Nicki, thanks for the comment — and entering! 😉

@Gerald, thanks for commenting. Why am I not surprised you’re of two minds? 😉 Hmmm, maybe I’ll be of two minds and just accidentally put your name in the hat, even though I said I wasn’t. 😀

I do welcome the kvetching, however. And depending on how things go this year, I may have to revisit this again. But for now, I’ll stick with this new schedule.

@Rich, thanks for the comment, and the support. You’re entered also.

@Global-Gal, thank you so much as well — and ditto on your fantastic support. 🙂 You’re in the contest.

@Christine, thanks so much for the comment, and your kind words. You’re entered to win.

@European Girl, glad to see you around again! I also look forward to hearing some good news from you. You’re also entered to win.

      1. Well, since only five of you entered the contest (except Gerald!), all five of you are winners — Nicki, Rich, Global-gal, Christine, and European Girl. Congratulations! I’ll be e-mailing you to get an address where I can send off these characters to.

    1. Hi Crystal,

Thanks for the comment! That’s really cool my writing helped your boyfriend understand your arguments — I’m so glad there’s a value in it. 🙂
