From the Archives: Finding Courage During Tough Times

I’m on deadline this week, a time when I am marshaling all my inner strength to continue the good fight. So I thought, what better than to run some of my past entries about finding courage as a couple during those tough times in life? Just reading back through these posts really inspires me — and hopefully you’ll find a little inspiration too.

I Stand By My Man, And Yes, He’s Chinese. I couldn’t believe when my friend said how I was “so loyal” for standing by my Chinese husband in the wake of his discrimination. Apparently, “for better or for worse” just didn’t apply.

My Chinese Husband Has Balls. John is shorter, soft-spoken and Chinese — but he has the heart of a hero, and some serious chutzpah.

The Miracle of the “Long March Spirit”. For my Chinese husband and I, our fight is far from over. But we’ll keep marching together, and that’s a real miracle.

I’ll be back on Monday with some fresh content!

  1. Does this fight involve getting your husband’s degree (PH.D?)?
It is a delicate matter to every candidate. I have a bad feeling about this whole thing. I wish you did not start the fight.

  2. well you could always launch a complaint inquiry to the dean. Maybe they can help. If not, just sue their asses off

  3. I am skeptical if you can win. You don’t want to enter into dispute unless it is the last option you have. Most likely, you will end up being delayed further.

  4. Jocelyn,
I don´t know if this has to do with the PhD, but just in case..
I don´t have a PhD, I have a Master instead, I know is not the same, but I got some troubles with it when they named the Cum Laude because I was in the 2nd one with best grades and they instead gave it to the exchange student that was there only for 5 months.
I got nuts, and for nothing, My Master tutor knows I deserve it, I know I do, I fighted, I wasted energy, bad mood, stomach ache, stress,…Stop! They have a policy, they consider those 5 months of exchange as the whole diploma. Period. Flip the page, hate them.
They can find any reason not to give the diploma and some are not easy to prove: quality, dedication, oral skills, not deep enough, English should be better, should have done more research, should have done it more specific, policies, %…mistakes…
Whatever is going on here, it might have some background (some other students with same caracteristics) or not..but don´t forget to take care of your health , a constant fight is only having bad impact on you.

  5. Well, I just read your 2 recent articles – don’t know what kind of battle you and your husband are fighting, but wish you success and luck (Amen).

Ps: I have been reading your blog’s articles for a while – really appreciated your effort and enthusiasm.
