I’m Recovering in the Hospital From Appendicitis

IMG_20160616_143841

Just wanted to let you all know I might be posting more off-schedule these days because I’ve been in the hospital. Don’t worry guys — I’m doing well with the recovery. They actually expect me to leave the hospital in the next day or so.

Late Sunday night just before midnight I thought I was just suffering from another really bad upset stomach — until I went to an emergency room and they diagnosed me with acute appendicitis, requiring immediate surgery.

They removed my appendix early Monday morning in a very successful operation that has left practically no visible scars. The doctors did an amazing job, and the hospital here has provided excellent care — it’s as comfortable and professional as the hospitals I remember back in America.

I should be back with more articles and posts next week.

Also, if you’ve sent me anything by e-mail (such as a guest post or otherwise) just know I’m not on e-mail these days and may not get back to you until next week.

In the meantime, wishing you a wonderful weekend.

UPDATE: The hospital discharged me on Monday, June 20 and I’m feeling much better as I continue my recovery at home. Thank you so much for your care and concern — your comments warmed my heart.

    1. Thanks for the comment, Autumn! Yeah, *almost* no scars at all. They’re hardly noticeable. They just cut these three small holes in my abdomen, and sealed them with aesthetics in mind, so once I’m healed nobody will really be able to tell (unless they look really carefully) that I had surgery there. I was surprised.

But I’m sure if this had happened when I was a kid, I’d have a scar just like yours (and Nicki’s too).

  1. i am just curious, how much would be the hospital bill ??? i hear that they have bankrupted many chinese like in usa.
    speedy recovery.

  2. Oh no! My daughter had her appendix rupture in the fall. I am glad they diagnosed you before it ruptured. I pray you have a speedy recovery!

  3. Sending you best wishes for a healthy and quick recovery Jocelyn! I’m sure Jun is taking good care of you! 🙂

  4. You look so small in that hospital bed! Glad the worst is over. You and Jun really need to take a break from all the stress soon. Be well.

  5. Get well soon!

Great that they found it out early enough, heard some unpleasant stories from friends over the year who all ended up with huge scars on their stomachs =/

    1. Thanks Renee! It’s true — and actually, I feel like the care I received in this hospital was really superior to anything I could have gotten in the US. It’s an incredible hospital.

      1. So glad to hear! I had hernia surgery overseas that went perfectly. Sometimes you gotta brag on skilled foreign doctors that would be looked down on by folks in the US. Blessings.

        1. I agree Renee, there are some outstanding foreign doctors and hospitals out there! When I shared what happened with my dad, he was amazed by the high standard of care I received. People definitely need to know.

  6. Get better soon! I also have a big scar from my operation. I lost weight and my physical condition took 6 months to recover. Luckily, nowadays, it’s much smaller scar and much quicker recovery.
