Recently, I’ve been getting a lot of the same questions in the Ask the Yangxifu mailbag — and often sending my fans links to this or that article I’ve written before. I love getting questions, and love answering. But as Friday started looming, I realized I had no good, new questions to feature on the blog. I thought, shoot, what I am going to write about for the Friday column?

But in the midst of my emerging content crisis, it suddenly came to me. When you get repeat questions, it means just one thing — you need a frequently asked questions page.

Enter in the brand-spanking-new Ask the Yangxifu Frequently Asked Questions, with some of the most popular questions on dating Chinese men and dating Western women. Tell me what you think, and let me know if I’m missing a favorite question of yours.

Don’t worry — the Q&A will be back next week. 🙂

P.S. to all of the Chinese men out there: I really, really wish your section wasn’t so painfully short. Only a fraction of my e-mails come from Chinese men wanting to know about dating Western women. Want to help me expand the knowledge base? Send me more good questions to answer. Thanks! 😉

Do you have a question about life, dating, marriage and family in China/Chinese culture (or Western culture)? Every Friday, I answer questions on my blog. Send me your question today.

  1. You’re getting me thinking, even with a simple announcement like that. I/you sure don’t need to write an FAQ on dating Chinese women… then again, considering how easy it seems to be for foreign men and Chinese women to get together, there sure is a lot of pixel space devoted to that matter…

  2. Hmm… I don’t agree with you, Gerald. There are many questions regarding the dates between Chinese women and Western men.

And – being inspired with Jocelyn’s FAQ idea – one day I am going to fill the gap 🙂

  3. Yeah, these things happen. After some time, you will get the same old questions asked. After all, how many different types of question can a person ask about dating, getting to know and getting along AMWW relationships or for that matter on any other subjects? That is why there is the FAQ thing on any topics. But of course, once in a while someone will come up with any interesting question or a twist to it that will deserve an individual answer. But don’t give up, many still look forward to your Friday views/advice on AMWW relationships.

  4. I think it’s a brilliant idea. I know I have some questions but I don’t really know how to word them. I’ll come back and email you. =o) It’s pretty refreshing to have this option.

  5. I bet the questions asked are mostly along the lines of “How do I get him/her to notice me?” or “Where can I meet ___?”

I’m wondering if we can leverage the power of the community there is here. Have everyone share their experiences in a symposium format. I’d be interested in hearing from everyone here how they met their current and past partners and what traits in particular were attractive.

  6. I have introduced my white boyfriend from Alabama to my Chinese parents living in Maryland. I have only talked to them on phone from here in Hawaii and he joked that they think I am related to Robert E. Lee and want to meet me. However, he is afraid of taking me home..and I can understand….

One thing…many Chinese are not happy about their kids marrying westerners but never in history have they ever asked for legislation banning marriage between different “races”, whatever that might mean!

  7. Good idea Jocelyn! I have to tell you that Friday’s Ask The Yangxifu is my favourite part of your blog and I’m always eagerly waiting for them. Hopefully some Chinese guys will send you a bunch of interesting questions!

  8. @keewah roberta lee,
Chinese parents are not against their children marrying westerners. Chinese parents are only against their children, the sons particularly, marrying westerners who are “poorly” educated, by that i mean those westerners that have bad manners and those that never finished their education i.e dropping out of school/university.

    1. @Gerald, Crystal, ordinary malaysian, Eileen, Richard, Keewah, Sara, sam, rmt, thanks all for the comments! I really appreciate them.

@Richard, that’s an excellent idea. Perhaps I could either set up some open threads for that? Or maybe people could answer questions and I could profile them on the blog? Or something else you had in mind? Tell me. And if you don’t feel like sharing in a comment, you can e-mail me at jocelyn (at) speakingofchina.com

  9. for sure the questions shall be centered around how and where to meet her/him or how to get along with her/him.
