Yangxifu Pride: Pinterest Boards on Chinese Men and Western Women in Love

Pinterest board - Chinese men and Western women in loveI once wrote about the rarity of couples of Chinese men and Western women, even dubbing us a “lonely club” at times.

Well, three years later, I’m feeling a little less lonely. That’s not just because I’ve discovered so many other Western women and Chinese men sharing their personal stories on the web, and met so many couples through Facebook and Twitter.

My newest reason why? Pinterest. I created three new boards dedicated to making the faces of Chinese men and Western women in love just a little more public.

Chinese men and Western women in love showcases photos of couples from around the world and the blogosphere (many of the photos came from couples who agreed to let us upload them). I also started a collection of Celebrity couples of Chinese men and Western women, and another board called Bruce Lee Loves Linda Lee (because you can NEVER have too many photos of this awesome couple).

Got a photo suggestion for any of these boards? Want me to add you as a pinned to a board? Know of an outstanding Pinterest board that I should follow? You can let me know by e-mail, Facebook, Twitter or even in the comments (if in the comments, I’ll reply to you by e-mail).

Happy pinning! 😉

Great idea Jocelyn. Although I’m not in a relationship now, but what about Korean male white female couple or Japanese male and white female couple?

“Northern Europeans are more introvert than Southern. Finns are extrem example of introvert. So are most East Asians. Could this expain most Asian-white relationship?”
I heard there were some common words between the Finns and the Koreans. However, Finnish is similar to Estonian and Hungarian and these groups are extremely introvert. Atilla the Hun was from Asia and the Huns settled Hungary. Mongols came through Eastern Europe and the Russians are more mixed with Asians than northern Europeans. If that is the only reason there would be more Asian-white relationships. Right now it is mostly a one way street between white men and Asian women. The father apart you are in genes smarter the kids. Thus, I have never found a dumb kid of mixed East Asian-Irish or East Asian-English origin. More often than not, the kids are well above average in intelligence. Under the white category Harvard ended up admitting 40% Mixed Asian-white kids..after the mixed classified themselves as white last academic year. In some cases they are super-smart…Tiger Mom’s daughters. I read a stat somewhere that Texas math average is kept up by Asian and Mixed Asian-white kids…Remove them from the calculations, Texas falls to the same level as Lousiana and MS in math achievement.

Odd observation, bro…who said East Asians are introverted? No in Beijing they aren’t. Or Shanghai. Or Dongbei. Or Henan. Or Guangdong. Or anywhere. Perhaps you’re thinking more about engineer’s kids in Northern California. But you now see the sampling problem, right?

And quit blaming the interracial dating imbalance on “personality” and other non-quantifiable babbling. I’ve yet to see one Russian man-Chinese woman couple. Chinese-Russian couples always involve Chinese husbands and Russian wives. When it comes to Chinese-American relationships, it’s the other way round.

    Somebody tell me why. Please.

One is the Slavic view of the world and the other is the Anglo-Saxon view of the world although American whites include some Slavs…however those of Slavic descent in America essentially adopt Anglo-Saxon customs!

In my experience, eastern Europeans have more overt racist attitudes borne out of less diversity and more poverty. Liberal democracy in US and UK coexists with white supremacy. It has less to do with world view. Such racial hierarchy makes it easier for people at the top to reap the benefits from down below. Choice is practical and political. Chinese example would be Manchu’s segregation policies toward Han Chinese.

    FINN JOKE

    Finnish Extroverts

How can you tell the difference between a Finnish introvert and a Finnish extrovert?
When he’s talking to you a Finnish introvert looks at his feet.
A Finnish extrovert looks at yours.

Because they do not look at each other.

That explained extremly extroverted middle easterners have their women covered up. Extroverted India have seperated women compartment on subway. How extroverted men behave is evident.

Most people think sauna in Finland is unique given the “wrong” impression finns are shy. Something outsider finds intriguing.

I’ve heard that Altaic people tend to be deppressive, pessimist, if not down right fatalist. Is that true for Ugric people as well?

@Henry, the photo of Jo and Michael, that’s one from a wedding photography studio — and those studios love doing photos like that, where the couple might dress like couples of the past (such as Hanfu, or in other traditional Chinese wedding attire).

Is it a recent trend in China to wear Hanfu instead of Qipao for special occasions?

@Henry Yeh, it’s not a recent trend at all — at least, not that I’m aware of. It’s akin to, say, a couple in the West who might get dressed up in Victorian clothing and get photos done. And the thing about Hanfu is, people see it in a number of dramas on TV (set in times when people used to wear Hanfu), so I think because of this exposure, people consider it cool to have photos taken in Hanfu.

Great post, thank you Jocelyn! My suggestion for the celebrity gallery is rock musician Xie Tianxiao who is married to an Italian woman. I think one of his band members in 谢天笑与冷血动物 has a yangxifu as well. They may not be celebrities outside of China, but certainly well known in here.

AG, I really didn’t get your point. Since when are East Asians particularly introvert? I know lots of Chinese people and only few of them are introverts. I also know lots of Northern Europeans, including Finns, who are extroverts. But even if all East Asians and all Northern Europeans were introverts, what makes you think they are most likely to marry other introverts?

I’m an extrovert very happily married to an introvert, and have noticed that we’re not the only couple like this. I think it’s quite common for a very talkative person to hook up with a more quiet one. Why would I want to marry someone like me?! 😀
